7 Simple Helpful Tools I Use to Make Writing Easy

Writing is Hard

As a busy luxury travel professional, you’re already working overtime to create magic and provide value for your clients. You have so much to do and writing sometimes falls to the back burner – if it’s even on the burner at all.

Hey, no judgment here!

If you’re not ready to hand over the reins of your content writing to a luxury travel copywriter like me (yes, that was a shameless plug), then here are a few handy tools I use when I write to save time, brainstorm new ideas, and make my writing better!

A Peek Into My Luxury Travel Copywriter’s Toolkit

1 – Grammarly

Grammarly is one of the most used tools in my copywriting toolkit and I can’t imagine work without it! It’s a great tool to analyze spelling and grammatical errors. Depending on your subscription level, it will provide more in-depth information like clarity and engagement.

Don’t underestimate Grammarly’s free subscription level. I use their free version and have found it sufficient for all my writing needs!

One of my favorite parts of Grammarly is their delivery evaluator. This is great for indicating what impression my audience will get while reading my content. I’ve found it useful to use while crafting emails to make sure the tone of my content is being interpreted like I want it to be.

With real-time suggestions on how to improve your writing and correct your mistakes, it’s an invaluable tool. I always run my writing through Grammarly before hitting the “publish” button.

2 – Hemingway Editor

When I first started as a luxury travel copywriter, one of the most difficult things for me to adapt to was switching up my writing style. Instead of writing as I had throughout high school and college, I had to write like I was having a conversation.

I now try to write around a 6th-grade reading level. After years of writing research papers, this was one of the main challenges for me when I first started as a copywriter! Don’t tell anyone, but it still is – which is why I love this tool!

Hemingway not only gives you the readability level of your writing, but it’s also my top tool for making sure I’m writing in an active voice versus a passive voice.

You don’t even have to download an extension or app for this one. All you have to do is copy and paste your writing into Hemmingway’s user-friendly site and get ready to simplify!

3 – Plagiarism Checker

Quetext’s Plagiarism Checker is a simple webpage I have bookmarked and use when I’ve finished editing my work. You do have to create an account, but don’t worry, it’s free!

You can either upload a file or copy and paste your writing into the plagiarism checker and hit, “Check Plagiarism”. That’s it.

Depending on the length of your work, it might take a minute for the scan to finish. When it’s done, you’ll get a plagiarism report. You’ll get the overall plagiarism risk in a percentage score. The lower the percentage, the lower the chance of unintentional plagiarism.

It will also provide you with examples when it looks like there might be a risk of plagiarism. You can cross-reference these sources to make sure you’re giving credit where it’s due.

Get ready to post without worrying if you’ve copied someone else’s work!

4 – CoSchedule Headline Analyser

This is a fantastic tool for anyone. This free, no subscription tool, is so easy to use. Your headline is what’s going to draw your audience in. You want a headline that immediately grabs your ideal clients’ attention. The goal is to get them past your headline.

As a copywriter, writing intriguing headlines is one of the most important things I do.

This tool is almost too easy. All you have to do is enter your test headline and see how it scores. I always try to make sure my headlines score at least a 70.

This handy tool breaks down sentiment, word balance, and headline type.

If you do want to get a little fancy with this tool, you can download the Google Chrome extension, Headline Studio, and you’ll get 3 free premium headlines.

These come with the added bonuses of word banks, suggestions, and competitor headline comparisons to help boost your score! After your free premium headlines, you can sign up for a monthly or annual subscription. The different tier levels depend on how many headlines you’ll be creating each month.

This is the perfect tool for those who write blogs and articles. Sometimes, coming up with a title for a piece is the most difficult part of the writing process. It’s always the last thing I focus on when I write.

I use the free version of this tool every time I need to give a title to a piece I’m writing. It’s easily become one of my most used tools.

5 – Google Docs

Being a freelance luxury travel copywriter means I’m collaborating with people from many different places. Google Docs is easy to navigate and great for collaboration. You can share a document, presentation, or spreadsheet with anyone you give access to.

It’s a great way to get a second opinion and go through the editing process when you are creating work for someone else. It has live editing updates so you can edit with someone else in real-time.

It also has some pretty cool add-ons like their free SEO assistant which gives you suggestions on how to get your content SEO optimized. I use this feature all the time when writing web copy, blogs, and articles.

6 – Hubspot Blog Topic Generator

Ever have writer’s block? Me too. Who hasn’t?

Good copywriting is about producing relevant and engaging content for your audience.

Hubspot’s Blog Topic Generator can provide fresh new ideas for content you haven’t thought of yet!

All you have to do is provide up to 5 nouns and Hubspot does the rest. It does the brainstorming for you and gives you 5 blog ideas for free.

Again, I use the free option of this tool. But, if you decide to subscribe to Hubspot, there’s the option to get a year of blog ideas for your chosen nouns.

On those days when you just can’t think of something to write about, I’ve found Hubspot to be helpful. Even if you don’t use one of Hubspot’s suggested blog topics, this helps get my creative juices flowing!

7 – Buzzsumo

Buzzsumo is a market research tool that can be hugely beneficial!

To engage your audience, you need to know what’s popular and what they’re looking for.

Buzzsumo’s alerts, content insights, and competitor analysis are helpful if you’re not using a copywriter and are doing all your market research and content creation yourself.

Once you’ve discovered what keywords you want to focus on for your latest content, head over to Buzzsumo, and enter your keywords. This will show you the most shared content for the keywords you’ve chosen.

This is a great way to see what your readers will be more likely to actually read. You can use Buzzsumo without creating an account, but some of their most beneficial filters will be limited. However, you can still see what people are talking about, reading, and sharing.

They offer a free 30-day trial to those interested in seeing what all the hype is about. Following the trial, they require a subscription if you want access to most of the other filters.
